Dodge City, Kan. – Western Kansas faces back-to-back storm threats, with severe thunderstorms possible late Saturday and heavy rainfall likely Sunday night. The National Weather Service reports storms will push into far western Kansas after 9 p.m. Saturday, bringing damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail as large as quarters near the Kansas-Colorado border.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, most of the state’s west-central counties will see storm chances increase tonight, with marginal to slight risk levels depending on location. Residents from Syracuse to Scott City should be alert for rapidly changing conditions and secure outdoor items ahead of high winds.
By Sunday evening, a separate system will boost rain chances to 70–90% across much of western Kansas, with totals topping 1 inch in some areas. Cities like Garden City, Great Bend, and Medicine Lodge could see locally heavier downpours, leading to ponding on roads and reduced visibility.
Travelers are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways, charge mobile devices, and monitor local alerts as multiple rounds of storms develop. Warnings remain possible into early Monday morning.
