Dodge City, Kan. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to push into southwest Kansas Sunday evening, bringing hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain across the region. The National Weather Service warns that storms will begin developing near the Kansas-Colorado border after 5 p.m. and track eastward into Kansas through the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the most severe threats will be west of U.S. Highway 83, where storms could produce hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph. These conditions may lead to hazardous travel, especially on rural roads where visibility could drop quickly during downpours.

Communities including Garden City, Liberal, and Dodge City may see storms by late evening as the system pushes east. Localized flash flooding is possible in areas where heavy rain persists. Officials advise residents to secure outdoor items, remain alert for warnings, and avoid travel during peak storm activity.

Storm chances will diminish by early Monday, but additional thunderstorm development is possible later in the week as the unsettled pattern continues.
