Dodge City, KS — A cold front moving through western Kansas is bringing cooler temperatures and gusty north winds to the Dodge City area this weekend, just days ahead of Christmas.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the front is passing through the region Saturday, December 20, ushering in cooler air from the north along with breezy conditions. High temperatures across Dodge City and surrounding southwest Kansas communities are expected to reach the low to mid-50s, cooler than recent days but still near seasonal levels for late December.

Forecasters say north winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour are expected through the day, with gusts exceeding 30 mph at times. While skies will feature filtered sunshine due to mid- and high-level cloud cover, the atmosphere near the surface remains dry, keeping precipitation chances near zero.

Temperatures across the region will vary slightly, with highs near 52 degrees in Dodge City, 50 degrees in Scott City and Ness City, and mid- to upper 50s farther south, including areas near Liberal and Medicine Lodge. The combination of wind and cooler air may make it feel chillier at times, especially during the morning and late afternoon.

Despite the cooler shift, weather impacts are expected to be minimal. The National Weather Service says no rain or snow is anticipated, making for generally favorable travel conditions during this busy pre-Christmas weekend.

Looking ahead, forecasters expect dry conditions to continue into Sunday, with temperatures remaining near or slightly below normal for late December. Winds are expected to ease somewhat overnight but could remain breezy at times.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and dress for the wind if spending extended time outside. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov/ddc.
