Dodge City, KS – Severe weather is expected to hit Johnson City, Garden City, and Scott City this afternoon. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Dodge City issued a warning about a surface boundary near these areas, likely triggering thunderstorms after 3 p.m.
According to the NWS, this boundary will move slowly, providing ample conditions for storm development as a weak upper-level disturbance approaches from the west. These storms are predicted to strengthen and move east-northeast, with peak activity around 6 p.m.
Hazards include hail up to 2 inches in diameter, capable of causing significant damage to vehicles and buildings, and wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could result in downed trees and power lines. Additionally, locally heavy rainfall may cause flooding in low-lying areas and poor drainage zones.
Residents are advised to stay weather aware and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued. Precautions such as securing loose outdoor items and avoiding travel during peak storm hours are recommended.
The upcoming weather forecast shows temperatures soaring. On Friday, expect a high of 97°F with clear skies. Saturday will see a slight cool down to 88°F with partly cloudy conditions. Sunday has a 35% chance of rain with a high of 85°F, while Monday and Tuesday will bring scorching temperatures of 98°F, accompanied by windy conditions on Monday. Midweek, temperatures will slightly dip, with highs of 86°F on Wednesday and 93°F on Thursday under mostly clear skies.
