Dodge City, Kan. – Drivers across central and southwest Kansas are dealing with slick roads Friday evening as steady rainfall pushes through the region. Water is ponding on highways and city streets, creating hazards for evening commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, widespread rain will continue through 8 to 9 p.m. before tapering off from west to east. Forecasters warn that roads will remain wet well into the night, urging drivers to reduce speeds and leave extra stopping distance.
Communities including Dodge City, Garden City, Pratt, and Medicine Lodge have seen persistent showers since midday, slowing traffic on U.S. 50 and U.S. 54. Emergency officials caution that hydroplaning is a concern, especially where drainage is poor. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel until the system exits.
The rainfall is expected to exit the state by late evening as it progresses southeastward. Additional advisories are not anticipated overnight, but officials remind Kansans to monitor for updates if conditions worsen.
