Dodge City, Kansas – Triple-digit heat continues to grip central and southwest Kansas today, with heat indices expected to reach 100–105 degrees from Hays to Dodge City and as far east as Lincoln. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours as heat advisories remain in effect through 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, lower humidity will keep heat indices slightly lower in the far west, but much of the region will still feel oppressive. Highs will push past 100 degrees in Hill City, Great Bend, and Hays, while Dodge City and Garden City will see maximum indices near 98–101. Lincoln may top out at 104.

Local health officials advise staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, drinking plenty of water, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. If you must work outside, schedule tasks for early morning or late evening and take frequent breaks. Some city recreation departments have announced reduced outdoor programming and water stations at parks.

This is the second consecutive day of widespread heat, similar to July heatwaves in recent years. Drivers are reminded never to leave children or pets in parked cars, even for a moment.

The heat is forecasted to moderate by Tuesday, but advisories could return later this week. Stay tuned to local updates for the latest information.
