Washington, D.C. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to impact the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region early Saturday afternoon, with a few storms potentially reaching severe levels before conditions begin to clear later in the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, storms will develop between noon and 4 p.m., bringing lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours. Highs will reach the low 70s across the region, with cooler mid-50s in the mountains. Nighttime temperatures will dip into the mid 40s to low 50s, with some mountain valleys reaching the mid 30s.
Cities including Baltimore, Arlington, and Rockville could see reduced visibility and hazardous travel during peak storm hours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid flood-prone roads, and delay travel until skies clear. Power outages may be possible in isolated areas.
By Sunday, the region turns drier with mostly sunny skies and pleasant temperatures in the low 70s. The warming trend continues Monday, with highs climbing to the mid 70s. A steady rise in temperatures is expected through the rest of the week.
Storm warnings remain in effect until early evening Saturday. More updates will follow if severe conditions redevelop.
