KANKAKEE, IL – A parking disagreement escalated into a large altercation Tuesday afternoon in Kankakee, drawing a response from city police.

According to the Kankakee City Police Department, officers were dispatched just before 12:30 p.m. to the 200 block of Crestlane for a report of a fight in progress. When they arrived, police allegedly found roughly a dozen people gathered, reportedly shouting and arguing over a parking space.

Authorities said one woman from the group entered a nearby building, where yelling continued before a physical fight allegedly broke out between her and another woman. Officers separated the two, but both reportedly refused to provide statements.

The crowd ultimately dispersed, police said, but no one involved cooperated with the investigation. Authorities have not reported any injuries or arrests at this time.

The department did not indicate whether officers plan to pursue charges or if the case will remain open. Police are reminding residents that disputes should be handled without confrontation and that those involved in incidents are encouraged to provide information to assist in investigations.

Anyone with information about the altercation is asked to contact the Kankakee City Police Department’s non-emergency line.
