North Texas — A powerful cold front is pushing through the region today, bringing a combination of strong thunderstorms, gusty winds, and a sharp drop in temperatures that will make Sunday feel dramatically colder.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth reports that scattered showers and isolated storms are possible early Saturday morning, but the main wave of activity will arrive this afternoon and evening as the front moves south. Some storms—especially across Central and East Texas—may become strong, producing hail and gusty winds. Severe weather coverage is expected to remain scattered.

Behind the front, much colder air pours in tonight, setting the stage for a winter-like Sunday across the entire region. Overnight lows in North Texas will fall into the upper 20s and low 30s, with temperatures early Sunday morning ranging from 27° in Graham to 35° in Palestine.

Strong north winds will drive wind chills down to between 15° and 28° for much of the area. Despite sunshine returning Sunday afternoon, highs will only reach the mid-40s to upper-40s—a stark difference from recent mild days.

Cold temperatures continue Sunday night, with lows again dipping into the upper 20s and low 30s. Monday starts chilly, but a gradual warmup begins by mid-week as southerly winds return. Highs climb back into the 50s and 60s by Wednesday and Thursday.

A brief chance of light rain returns on Monday, but widespread precipitation is not expected.

Residents are encouraged to bundle up for Sunday morning, protect outdoor pets, and be cautious of gusty conditions tonight and early Sunday.

More updates are expected as the front moves through North Texas.
