Dallas, Texas – Sweltering heat grips Dallas-Fort Worth and much of North Texas Wednesday as temperatures soar to 104° with a heat index reaching 108°, prompting officials to issue a heat advisory for the region until 7 p.m. tonight. Dangerous heat will impact millions, with heightened risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for those working or spending time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the heat advisory remains in effect across a wide stretch of North and East Texas, including Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, Collin, Parker, Wise, and surrounding counties. The highest risk window spans noon through early evening, with little relief from high humidity.

City officials urge residents in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Denton, and surrounding communities to avoid non-essential outdoor activity, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Those working outdoors are encouraged to schedule frequent breaks in the shade or air-conditioned spaces. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and staying hydrated are key to preventing heat-related illnesses.

First responders across the Metroplex are prepared for an uptick in emergency calls. Outdoor events and sports practices may see delays or cancellations, and road crews are on alert for pavement buckling on major highways like I-35 and I-20. This heat wave, reminiscent of last July’s records, poses special concern for those without reliable cooling at home.

The advisory remains in place until 7 p.m., with little overnight relief. More advisories may follow as temperatures stay above normal through the week.
