Fort Worth, Texas – After a steamy start to the Memorial Day weekend, North and Central Texas could see strong to severe storms late Sunday through Monday, disrupting holiday travel and outdoor events.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a cold front arriving Sunday afternoon will bring numerous thunderstorms, especially from Graham and Cisco east toward DFW, Waco, and Killeen. Some storms may bring damaging winds, lightning, and locally heavy rain, increasing the risk of flash flooding.
Friday and Saturday will stay mostly dry, with highs soaring into the mid to upper 90s across the region. Graham, Killeen, and Waco could hit 95° or higher by Saturday, with heat index values near 100°. A 20% chance of isolated storms lingers over far North Texas Friday evening, including Bowie and Sherman.
By Sunday evening, storm chances increase significantly. Areas from DFW to Palestine could experience rapid weather changes as the front moves southeast. Outdoor gatherings, especially in state parks or along highways like I-35, may face delays or hazards.
Storm activity is expected to linger into Monday morning. Residents should monitor updates and avoid travel during heavy rainfall or lightning. Additional watches or warnings are possible through the holiday.
