DETROIT, MI – Southeast Michigan is in for a bitterly cold stretch heading into the weekend, with light snow and subzero wind chills expected, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.

Forecasters say periods of flurries will continue over the next five days, with the best chance for light accumulation (less than half an inch) arriving Friday night, particularly north and west of the Detroit metro area.

Temperatures will remain well below normal, with highs hovering near 25 to 30°F through Friday before plunging into the teens and single digits by Saturday. Wind chills could fall into the single digits Saturday and drop below zero Saturday night into Sunday morning, especially in Flint, Ann Arbor, and Monroe.

According to the National Weather Service, the arctic air mass will begin to ease early next week, but above-freezing daytime temperatures may not return until Wednesday.

Residents are urged to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure, as frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes at these temperatures. Motorists should also watch for icy patches on untreated roads Friday night into Saturday morning.
