Detroit, Michigan – Hot, humid air is gripping Southeast Michigan again today, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s across Detroit and surrounding areas. Areas of dense morning fog are adding to the sticky summer feel, while a few late-day thunderstorms could develop, mainly after 4 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, any storms this evening will be less widespread than Monday’s, with the best chance for showers and thunder mainly south of I-69. By tonight, lingering rain tapers off early, and lows drop to the mid-60s.
Drivers on I-94 and I-75 should be alert for patchy fog during the morning commute, and residents south of Flint should keep an eye on the sky for possible evening lightning and gusty winds. Air conditioners will get a workout as heat indexes near 90 degrees, but a relief is on the way—cooler, drier air sweeps in from the north following a cold front late Wednesday.
With temperatures dropping to the mid-70s by Thursday and Friday, and plenty of sunshine expected, this week’s heat wave will break soon. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and prepare for changing weather through midweek.
More advisories or alerts may follow if storm coverage increases.
