Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan will see two rounds of wintry weather beginning Tuesday morning and continuing through Wednesday, potentially affecting commutes and producing light to moderate snow accumulations.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, light snow and pockets of freezing drizzle will begin early Tuesday, lasting into the afternoon. Snowfall totals during this first round range from a dusting to around one inch, with many areas seeing only trace accumulations. Highs will reach the mid to upper 20s with southwest winds up to 20 mph and gusts near 25 mph.
The second and more impactful round arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday. A system moving out of the Plains will spread steady snow across the region, producing 1–3 inches for Metro Detroit and 2–4+ inches north and west toward Flint, Lapeer, and the Thumb. Travel impacts may be more pronounced during the Wednesday morning commute as roads turn slick and visibility drops.
Forecasters note that some areas may mix with freezing drizzle at times, particularly Tuesday morning and again briefly during transitions Tuesday night. Highs Wednesday will warm into the mid to upper 30s, helping to gradually improve road conditions by afternoon, though wet and slushy surfaces are expected.
Drivers should plan for slower travel both Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning and monitor updated snowfall maps as bands may shift.
