DETROIT, Mich. – Southeast Michigan will see a swing in temperatures this week, with the hottest day arriving Wednesday before storms and a cold front bring a sharp cool-down. Highs could reach the low 80s midweek, but conditions will turn noticeably cooler by Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop Wednesday afternoon and evening ahead of the approaching cold front. The system will move quickly, dropping temperatures into the 60s by Thursday, with drier and breezier conditions taking over through the weekend.
Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Flint could see brief heavy downpours Wednesday, leading to slick evening commutes. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, gusty winds and lightning remain possible. Outdoor plans Wednesday afternoon should include backup options in case of storms.
Travelers on I-94 and I-75 should prepare for slower traffic during peak shower activity Wednesday evening. By Friday, temperatures will settle into the upper 60s with cooler nights, making for a comfortable stretch into Saturday.
The National Weather Service notes that conditions will stay dry into the weekend, giving residents a break from the midweek storms.
