Detroit Weather Alert: Thunderstorms Possible Tuesday Afternoon Into Overnight Hours

DETROIT, Mich. – Thunderstorms may roll across southeast Michigan Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and lightning to parts of Detroit and nearby suburbs before clearing out midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, showers are possible after 2 p.m. Tuesday with a high near 83 degrees. Thunderstorms are more likely in the evening and overnight, especially before 2 a.m. Wednesday, with rain chances up to 40 percent. Winds could shift south at 6 to 8 mph as the system moves through.

Drivers in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Grosse Pointe may see slower evening commutes if downpours develop. Outdoor events and late-night travel could also be affected by the storms. Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts and avoid flooded low-lying roads.

Conditions improve by Wednesday with highs near 82 under partly sunny skies. The remainder of the week looks dry, with mostly sunny weather expected Thursday through Saturday and temperatures reaching the mid-80s.

Storm activity is not expected to return until early next week, giving southeast Michigan several quiet days after Tuesday’s unsettled weather.
