Detroit, Michigan – Drivers across southeast Michigan could encounter brief snowy conditions early Friday morning, as a low-pressure system moves across the northern Great Lakes and spreads light snow into parts of the region before temperatures climb above freezing.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, snow is expected to develop after midnight Friday and continue through the mid to late morning hours, with the most persistent snowfall occurring between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m.

The greatest accumulation is expected north of Interstate 69, where communities such as Saginaw, Flint, and Port Huron could see 1 to 3 inches of snow before temperatures warm later in the morning.

Closer to the Detroit metro area, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Monroe, snowfall totals are expected to be lighter due to warmer surface temperatures. Some snow may mix with rain or melt on contact as readings climb above freezing late Friday morning.

Even with modest totals, bursts of heavier snow and gusty winds could briefly reduce visibility on major routes such as I-75, I-94, and I-69, especially during the early morning commute.

Forecasters say temperatures will rise above freezing late Friday morning, which should help limit long-lasting impacts. Officials advise drivers to stay alert for quickly changing road conditions during the early morning hours before the system moves out later Friday.
