Detroit, MI – A strong cold front will bring a dramatic shift from rain to snow this weekend across southeast Michigan, marking the area’s first real taste of winter weather this season.

According to the US National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, rain showers will move through the region Friday morning before skies turn drier and breezier by afternoon, with highs near 60°F. Temperatures will begin falling Saturday as clouds increase, setting the stage for a mix of rain and snow late Saturday night into Sunday.

Forecasters say accumulating snow is possible Saturday night through Sunday, though totals will vary widely depending on location. Areas north of Detroit and closer to Flint may see more measurable snow, while southern sections could experience more rain and melting early in the event.

By Monday, highs will only reach the upper 30s, with lake effect snow showers possible through Tuesday. Motorists should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility, particularly in the northern parts of the metro area.
