Detroit, Mich. – Southeast Michigan will bake under oppressive heat and humidity through Monday, with heat index values climbing into the upper 90s in some areas. Afternoon highs in Detroit are expected to reach the low-to-mid 90s each day, pushing the “feels like” temperature close to triple digits, especially on Saturday and Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, the heat index will peak near 98°F in parts of central Michigan Saturday, with most of Southeast Michigan ranging from 92–96°F through Sunday. Monday will bring slightly cooler highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, but the humidity will keep heat index values uncomfortable. Isolated thunderstorms could develop Monday afternoon, offering some relief but also a risk of lightning and brief heavy rain.
The prolonged heat could stress vulnerable populations and strain cooling systems. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and check on elderly neighbors. Pets should be kept out of hot cars and provided shade and fresh water.
This hot and humid pattern is expected to ease after Monday evening, but forecasters warn more advisories could be issued if conditions persist.
