Detroit, MI – Scattered to numerous lake effect snow showers will affect southeast Michigan from Wednesday night through Thanksgiving, potentially making for slick and windy travel, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.
Forecasters say wet snow will begin by mid-afternoon Wednesday, becoming more widespread into the evening as temperatures drop near freezing. The greatest snow coverage is expected south of a Howell-to-Detroit line, with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible. Areas farther south, including Ann Arbor, Monroe, and Adrian, could see 2 to 4 inches by Thursday.
Snow showers will persist into Thanksgiving Day, with light additional accumulations possible, especially in the Thumb region. Strong winds are also expected to create blowing snow and reduced visibility, adding to travel hazards for holiday commuters.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel, slow down on icy roads, and check conditions before heading out.
