Detroit, MI – Drivers in Detroit should expect major delays this weekend as construction crews close a key stretch of northbound Interstate 75 near the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.
According to Bridging North America, northbound I-75 will shut down between Springwells Street and Clark Street beginning Friday, October 3, 2025, at 9 p.m. The freeway is scheduled to reopen by Monday, October 6, at 5 a.m.
The northbound I-75 on-ramp at Springwells Street will also close during this time. Traffic on southbound Springwells heading to I-75 will be detoured east to Fort Street, then north on Clark Street to reach the freeway via the Clark on-ramp.
In addition, several long-term lane restrictions remain in place. According to project officials, Fort Street, Livernois Avenue, and the northbound I-75 Service Drive will continue to see closures until fall 2025, typically from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Detours are posted for both Livernois Avenue and the Service Drive.
Officials urge drivers to allow extra travel time and follow marked detours through the affected neighborhoods. The work is part of ongoing construction tied to the Gordie Howe International Bridge, connecting Detroit to Windsor, Ontario.
