Detroit, MI – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to move across southeast Michigan on Tuesday, bringing the threat of localized flooding and hazardous travel conditions for Detroit and surrounding suburbs.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely through the day Tuesday, with the heaviest storms expected between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. A 90% chance of rain could drop more than a half inch in spots, with strong wind gusts reaching 20 mph during storms.

Drivers in Detroit, Hamtramck, Dearborn, and Warren should prepare for reduced visibility and ponding on roadways during the afternoon commute. Power outages are also possible with heavier thunderstorms. The NWS advises residents to secure outdoor items and avoid flooded intersections.

Rain chances continue Tuesday night before conditions gradually improve. Wednesday will stay mostly cloudy with highs near 79°F, but calmer winds will make travel easier. By Thursday, skies turn sunny with highs in the low 80s, offering a stretch of warm, dry weather into the weekend.
