DETROIT, Mich. – Southeast Michigan will stay warm and dry through Tuesday, but storm chances build by midweek as a cold front sweeps in. Afternoon highs near 80 degrees Monday and Tuesday will give way to unsettled conditions late Wednesday into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, showers and thunderstorms may develop Wednesday afternoon and last into Thursday evening. Forecasters warn that some storms could bring locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds, especially along and south of I-94.

Cooler, breezier air will follow the front, dropping temperatures back into the 60s by Thursday and Friday. Commuters should prepare for slick roads during the Wednesday evening drive, while outdoor plans on Labor Day and Tuesday remain in the clear.

Residents are encouraged to keep phones charged and stay alert for changing weather alerts. Those with travel plans late Wednesday should allow extra time in case of storm delays.

Additional advisories are possible if stronger storms organize midweek, with conditions staying unsettled into Friday.
