Detroit, Michigan – Drivers across southeast Michigan should prepare for slick roads and slower travel early Wednesday as a round of snow moves through the region during the peak of the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early Wednesday morning through early afternoon, with snow developing around 3 a.m. and tapering off by about 1 p.m. Most areas can expect 1 to 3 inches of accumulation, with the highest totals focused between the I-94 and I-69 corridors.

The snow is expected to intensify between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m., creating hazardous travel conditions during the busiest commute hours. Areas including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, Pontiac, Warren, Saginaw, Bay City, Port Huron, and Monroe are all included in the advisory. Secondary roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slippery as snow rates briefly increase.

The Michigan Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check real-time conditions on the Michigan Drive Map before heading out. School delays and slower bus routes are also possible, especially in rural parts of Livingston, Lapeer, Tuscola, and Sanilac counties.

Snow tapers off by early afternoon Wednesday, but untreated roads could remain slick into the evening. Additional advisories may be issued if snowfall bands become more persistent overnight.
