Detroit, Mich. – Southeast Michigan drivers should brace for slick roads and late-night delays Wednesday as a line of thunderstorms pushes through. Heavy rain and gusty winds could make travel hazardous, particularly on I-75 and I-94 during the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, storms will develop Wednesday evening with a 90 percent chance of rain overnight. Strong downpours and thunder are expected to reduce visibility and create ponding on roads through early Thursday morning. Commuters should avoid unnecessary late-night travel, charge devices in case of power outages, and keep flashlights handy.

The storms follow a stretch of hot, summerlike weather. Wednesday’s high will climb near 84 degrees before storms roll in. By Thursday morning, highs cool to the upper 60s as showers taper off and skies gradually clear. Winds from the west may gust up to 18 mph, creating additional hazards for high-profile vehicles.

Friday looks calmer with partly sunny skies and a high near 69, offering a break before cooler fall air settles in for the weekend. Saturday stays mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60s, perfect for football games and outdoor plans. Sunday continues the trend with sunny skies and highs near 68, reinforcing the early signs of fall across metro Detroit.

Storm chances return Wednesday night, but calmer, cooler weather dominates by Friday. More advisories may be issued if storm intensity increases.
