DETROIT, Mich. – A crisp fall chill has settled over southeast Michigan, with clear skies and calm winds setting the stage for areas of frost tonight and again late Thursday. Temperatures will drop into the upper 30s, and a few inland counties could briefly touch freezing before dawn.

According to the National Weather Service office in Detroit/Pontiac, lows will range from 33 to 40 degrees overnight, with the coldest readings north and west of Detroit. Patchy frost is likely in rural parts of Oakland, Livingston, and Washtenaw Counties, where winds go calm under clear skies.

The agency said a warming trend begins Thursday afternoon, bringing highs in the upper 50s to low 60s with abundant sunshine. However, another chilly night follows Thursday, with lows again in the 30s to lower 40s and renewed frost potential before milder air arrives Friday.

Drivers on I-69 and I-75 should expect patchy fog or frost early Thursday morning, especially near grassy shoulders and overpasses. Residents are advised to protect tender plants, outdoor pets, and exposed plumbing from light freeze damage.

By Friday, southerly breezes will lift highs into the mid-60s, signaling a brief warmup heading into the weekend. No rain is expected through the end of the workweek, keeping roads dry and skies mostly sunny — a welcome stretch of classic Michigan fall weather before next week’s cooler pattern returns.
