Detroit, Michigan – A brief window of wintry weather late Monday night may impact travel along I-94, I-75, and other Southeast Michigan roadways before milder air arrives Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, increasing cloud cover is expected Monday with daytime highs ranging from 22 to 27 degrees, remaining below normal for early February. Despite dry conditions during the day, forecasters note a light wintry mix is possible overnight, primarily focused across Michigan’s Thumb region, with lesser chances farther south toward the Detroit metro area.

Probability graphics show low to moderate precipitation chances late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, with the highest percentages north and east of Detroit. Any precipitation would be light, but cold pavement temperatures could lead to isolated slick spots, particularly on bridges, ramps, and untreated surfaces along I-94, I-75, I-96, and US-23.

By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rise into the mid to upper 30s, roughly 5 to 10 degrees above average, limiting the duration of any wintry impacts. Breezy conditions and mostly cloudy skies will accompany the warmer air, helping to reduce lingering road concerns as the day progresses.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, conditions are expected to turn mostly cloudy again with highs settling back into the lower 30s, closer to seasonal norms.

The National Weather Service emphasized that any wintry precipitation overnight would be brief and localized, but urged drivers to remain alert during the early Tuesday morning commute, especially young workers and students traveling before sunrise.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions overnight as confidence in precipitation placement improves.
