Detroit, Michigan – Wind gusts up to 45 mph will develop by 10 a.m. Friday and continue through 9 p.m., creating hazardous travel along I-75 and I-94 and increasing the risk of isolated power outages across metro Detroit.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Wind Advisory is in effect for areas along and south of I-69 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will strengthen through late morning, with peak gusts near 45 mph during the afternoon and early evening.

High-profile vehicles face difficult driving conditions.

Drivers on I-75 from Monroe through Detroit and north toward Flint may encounter sudden crosswinds, especially on bridges and open freeway stretches. Along I-94 between Ann Arbor and Port Huron, gusts could push vehicles within their lanes and make passing more dangerous. Local utilities, including DTE Energy, are monitoring for scattered outages if tree limbs fall onto power lines.

Additional light showers may move through at times today, mixing with melting snowflakes this evening as colder air begins to filter in. Temperatures remain seasonably cool, limiting any significant snow accumulation during the advisory window.

What residents should do now: Secure outdoor furniture and trash bins, use caution on north-south roads, and allow extra stopping distance during the afternoon commute.

Winds gradually ease after 9 p.m. Friday, but cooler air this weekend could bring light accumulating snow, especially north of Detroit. The Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday for communities along and south of I-69.
