Detroit, Michigan – A light snow and wintry mix developed early today, creating slick conditions across the city during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, a warm front moving through southeast Michigan is bringing light snow and mixed precipitation this morning, followed by a lull this afternoon. High temperatures today are expected to range from 34 to 38 degrees in Detroit.
Rain and drizzle are forecast to return during the evening and overnight hours, with temperatures hovering near freezing. Forecasters note that some drizzle could briefly freeze, leading to spotty slick surfaces, though only trace ice accumulation is expected in the city. Areas farther northeast toward Michigan’s Thumb could see up to 0.5 inches of snow, but Detroit is expected to remain mainly rain- and drizzle-focused tonight.
Tuesday brings a noticeable warm-up, with dry conditions and highs reaching 40 to 46 degrees as cloud cover gradually decreases. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the upper 20s, which could refreeze any lingering moisture on untreated roads.
By Wednesday, conditions turn cooler and mostly cloudy, with daytime highs between 34 and 40 degrees. The next chance for precipitation does not arrive until late Wednesday, when light rain may return.
The fluctuating temperatures and changing precipitation types could affect students, early-morning workers, and commuters, especially during the morning hours today and late tonight.
Residents are encouraged to monitor road conditions and allow extra travel time during periods of mixed precipitation.
