Detroit, Michigan — Two men have been charged in the fatal shooting of a Fenton man during a firearm sale meeting in Detroit, authorities said.

According to the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Jalen Williams and Hodari Heatley were charged following an investigation into the death of Mason Tabor, whose body was discovered after he went missing on Dec. 16, 2024.

Police said Tabor traveled to the area of West Buena Vista Street and Wildemere Street to sell a firearm to one of the suspects. When he suddenly stopped communicating, loved ones became concerned and began tracking his phone location.

Investigators located Tabor’s abandoned vehicle and later found him inside a vacant building nearby, where authorities say he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Detroit police, it is alleged that the victim met the defendants inside the building to test-fire the gun before he was fatally shot. Authorities say both suspects then fled the scene.

Police allege the defendants took two firearms, the victim’s phone, and his car keys, later moving the vehicle and parking it at another location where family members eventually discovered it.

Williams has been charged with homicide–felony murder, first-degree murder, armed robbery, and three felony firearm counts.

Heatley faces charges of homicide–felony murder, first-degree murder, armed robbery, weapons–firearms possession by a prohibited person, and four felony firearm counts.

According to investigators, the case developed after Detroit’s Missing Persons Unit and K-9 officers searched the area while attempting to locate Tabor.

Both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court, and the investigation remains part of ongoing legal proceedings.
