Detroit, Michigan – A 60-year-old man faces murder charges after a fatal warehouse crash in Detroit.

According to the Detroit Police Department, Theopris Mays, 60, of Herndon, Virginia, has been charged in connection with a Feb. 22, 2026, crash that killed two North Carolina residents inside a warehouse on Rosa Parks Boulevard.

Police said officers were dispatched around 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, to the 6000 block of Rosa Parks Boulevard for reports of a single-vehicle accident. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle lodged upright against a loading dock with two occupants trapped inside and unresponsive. Medics pronounced both victims deceased at the scene.

Investigators allege Mays was driving recklessly at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the building, fatally injuring Andre Boynton, 60, and Carla Boynton, 57, both of Durham, North Carolina. Authorities further allege Mays fled the scene on foot.

According to Detroit police, Mays was later taken into custody after a short time.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Mays with two counts of Second-Degree Murder, one count of Reckless Driving Causing Death, and one count of Leaving the Scene of an At-Fault Accident Causing Death.

Court proceedings are pending. All suspects are presumed innocent pending further proceedings.

The crash temporarily drew emergency response activity to the Rosa Parks Boulevard corridor, an area used regularly by delivery drivers and local commuters.

This remains an active investigation.
