Detroit, Michigan – Afternoon storms could slow commutes and outdoor activities Tuesday as heat and humidity fuel a thunderstorm threat across southeast Michigan. Temperatures will push into the low 90s before storms develop, with peak risk expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected Tuesday afternoon, with locally heavy rain and lightning possible. Storm chances will extend into the evening, particularly for Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Livingston counties. Southbound I-75, M-10, and other key metro Detroit corridors may see slower travel due to wet roads and reduced visibility.

Storm activity is part of a broader stretch of heat and humidity expected through midweek, with “feels-like” temperatures in the mid-90s. Outdoor workers, festival organizers, and youth sports programs should have backup indoor plans for Tuesday afternoon.

The storm threat will taper late Tuesday night, but another round of showers is possible Wednesday before conditions dry out for the latter half of the week.
