Detroit, Michigan – Another round of accumulating snow is expected across southeast Michigan today, with 1 to 3 inches forecast in most areas before lake-effect snow chances increase tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.

In a Friday morning update, forecasters said snow will develop this morning and continue through the evening hours, with most accumulation occurring between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Localized totals near 4 inches are possible, especially around the Tri-Cities region, including Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland.

The National Weather Service warned that snowfall rates combined with blowing snow could lead to rapidly changing visibility and hazardous road conditions, particularly during peak travel hours. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and remain alert for slick surfaces.

Additional accumulation is possible tonight through Saturday night as lake-effect snow develops behind the system. Amounts will be more variable due to shifting wind directions, but some areas could see periodic bursts of heavier snow.

An arctic air mass is expected to move back into the region by the end of the weekend, bringing below-normal temperatures that may persist into next week. Periodic snow chances are expected to continue during this colder stretch.

Commuters, students, and early-shift workers across metro Detroit and surrounding counties may experience slower travel and reduced visibility today.
