Detroit, Michigan – Scorching temperatures and high humidity are gripping southeast Michigan Monday, with heat indices pushing past 93°F and scattered thunderstorms developing into the evening. Some of these storms could bring damaging wind gusts to parts of Metro Detroit, especially late Monday and again Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, the region remains under a risk for isolated strong storms through Tuesday night, particularly in areas south of I-69. Rainfall will taper off overnight, but Tuesday will remain hot, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and renewed chances for afternoon thunderstorms.
Localized downpours could affect the evening commute across Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw counties, while wind gusts from stronger cells may down tree limbs or cause brief outages. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, limit outdoor activity in the heat, and secure loose outdoor items.
Relief is on the way by midweek: A cold front arriving from the north will drop temperatures noticeably starting Wednesday. Highs will settle into the 70s by Thursday, with drier, more comfortable air across the region.
More storms are possible Tuesday, with cooler air settling in by Wednesday morning.
