KINGMAN, Ariz. – A Flood Watch is in effect through late Saturday as deep tropical moisture from Tropical Storm Priscilla pushes into northwest Arizona and far eastern California, bringing several rounds of rain and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service in Las Vegas warns that heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding, especially across Mohave County and portions of San Bernardino County.
According to the Weather Service, showers and storms will intensify Thursday afternoon and persist through Saturday night. The heaviest rain is expected near Kingman, Bullhead City, and along U.S. 93 and I-40 corridors, where 1 to 3 inches could fall with locally higher amounts. Low-lying areas, washes, and slot canyons may flood rapidly, and isolated rockslides are possible in mountainous terrain.
Roadway flooding could affect travel through Chloride, Yucca, and Needles, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours when visibility drops. The Arizona Department of Transportation urges drivers to avoid crossing flooded roads and to monitor highway conditions.
Residents are advised to prepare by clearing storm drains, securing outdoor items, and keeping mobile devices charged in case of power disruptions. Campers and hikers should move to higher ground and avoid desert washes. Storms may also produce frequent lightning and gusty winds.
Rain chances gradually diminish late Saturday as the remnants of Priscilla drift eastward, allowing drier air to return by Sunday.
