DES MOINES, Iowa – Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to move across central Iowa through Monday, bringing wet roads and reduced visibility for morning commuters in the Des Moines metro. A few stronger storms could develop over southeastern Iowa into the afternoon before conditions begin to dry out overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, a lingering rain pattern will persist through Monday night with a 90% chance of precipitation and rainfall totals up to a half-inch possible in some spots. Winds will remain from the north around 8 mph, shifting calmer overnight as skies begin to clear.
By Tuesday, sunshine will return across much of Iowa with highs near 67°F and dry, mild conditions lasting through midweek. The next chance for isolated showers arrives Thursday night, though confidence remains low.
Drivers are urged to allow extra time on slick roads Monday and check visibility in fog-prone areas early in the morning. Spotter activation is not expected at this time.
