Des Moines Issues Flood Watch for Cedar River in Waterloo

Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended a Flood Watch for the Cedar River at Waterloo, impacting Black Hawk County. The alert, issued at 10:46 AM CDT on Thursday, warns residents of potential flooding from Friday evening to early Sunday morning.

According to the NWS, the Cedar River’s stage was at 11.1 feet on Thursday morning, with forecasts indicating it could reach the 13.0-foot flood stage by Friday evening. The flooding could result in the closure of many storm sewers along Black Hawk Creek and the Cedar River, as well as the Fletcher Avenue levee gates.

Residents in the watch area are advised to remain vigilant and monitor weather updates at weather.gov/desmoines/water.
