Des Moines, Iowa – Showers and a few non-severe storms are expected to move across northern Iowa today, leaving much of central and southern Iowa drier as conditions improve by evening. Temperatures will stay seasonal, with highs in the 70s north and around 80 degrees farther south.
According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, scattered storms will be most active across northern counties through this morning and into the evening. Areas south, including Des Moines and Ames, will see partly sunny skies with only isolated rain chances. Storms are not expected to turn severe but could produce brief downpours.
Travelers across northern Iowa should be alert for wet roads, especially along stretches of Interstate 35 toward Mason City. Farther south, roads will remain mostly dry, with sunshine breaking through by late afternoon. Power outages and flooding are not anticipated with this round of storms.
Thursday brings mostly to partly sunny skies statewide, with highs between 76 and 83 degrees. Looking ahead, the weekend appears mostly dry, though far western Iowa may see occasional showers or storms.
