Des Moines, Iowa – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will move across Iowa from west to east overnight and continue through Tuesday, raising the chance for gusty winds in stronger cells. Severe weather is not expected, but a few storms may bring localized hazards for commuters and farmers.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, showers will remain spotty, with thunder possible at times through Tuesday. Storms could cause brief travel slowdowns on major highways including I-80 and I-35, particularly during the morning and evening commutes.

While widespread severe storms are not anticipated, forecasters warn that stronger pockets of activity could push out gusty winds, especially in central Iowa. Outdoor activities and fieldwork may be interrupted by passing showers, and residents are encouraged to secure loose items.

Conditions will turn drier by midweek, with a warming trend setting up for late week. Highs are expected to climb into the upper 80s by Thursday, nearing 90 by Friday, making it one of the warmest stretches of September so far.

Showers taper by Tuesday night, but another round of advisories could be issued later this week if heat builds quickly.
