Des Moines, IA – A stretch of pleasant fall weather arrives Sunday across Iowa, with milder temperatures and light winds expected throughout the day. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines, a mix of partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s will make for one of the more comfortable days of the month.

Morning lows are forecast to start between 27 and 35 degrees before temperatures rebound briskly by afternoon. Areas including Ames, Fort Dodge, Des Moines, and Ottumwa can expect calm conditions and minimal weather impacts through the day.

According to NWS, a shift toward wetter weather begins Monday as clouds increase ahead of the next disturbance. Highs will reach the upper 40s to mid-50s before rain and drizzle move in Monday night and continue into Tuesday morning.

Most of the state will see only light precipitation, but forecasters note that a very brief wintry mix is possible in portions of far northern Iowa early Tuesday. Any icy impacts are expected to remain minimal, and precipitation should fall predominantly as rain.

By Tuesday morning, lingering showers will hold mainly across northern Iowa before tapering off into the afternoon. Temperatures will stay seasonal, ranging from the low 40s to upper 50s.

Travelers heading out late Monday night or early Tuesday should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility at times, especially in northern counties where the rain may briefly mix with snow or sleet.

Additional forecast refinements are expected as the next system approaches.
