Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 5 a.m. to noon Saturday, November 8, 2025, as the first snow of the season moves across northern and central Iowa.
According to the National Weather Service, rain and snow will spread statewide through Saturday morning, with the heaviest snow expected in northwestern and north-central Iowa, including Sheldon, Storm Lake, and Carroll, where up to 3 inches could accumulate. Areas farther south, including Des Moines and Ames, are forecast to see a rain–snow mix, while southern Iowa will experience mainly rain.
Forecasters caution that falling temperatures may create slick spots on roads and bridges, especially by evening. Reduced visibility is likely during heavier snow bursts, and light snow could linger into the night with lows dropping into the teens.
The weather service warns that even a 1–2° temperature change could shift snow amounts farther south along the Highway 30 to I-80 corridor, so drivers should stay alert to forecast updates.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra travel time as winter conditions take hold across much of the state.
