According to New Hampshire State Police, troopers assigned to Troop B responded just before 2 p.m. Monday, March 9, to a reported crash on the southbound side of Interstate 93 near mile marker 10 in Derry.
Authorities said the incident involved a 2007 Ford Focus that had stopped in the right breakdown lane when it was struck from behind by a 2015 Chevrolet Express van.
Investigators identified the Ford Focus driver as Larry Niles Jr., 53, of Londonderry. Following the collision, the vehicle rolled over.
After the crash, both vehicles came to rest in the right breakdown lane on the southbound side of the interstate.
Niles was transported to a nearby hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, according to state police.
The driver of the Chevrolet van, identified as Aiden McCarthy, 22, of Dracut, Massachusetts, was not injured in the crash.
Members of the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit responded to assist troopers in documenting and investigating the crash scene.
Emergency responders from the Derry Fire Department, Londonderry Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.
Authorities said no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
