Denver, Colo. – Smoky skies and cooler air are keeping Colorado residents on alert Friday, while scattered showers and isolated storms linger mainly across the mountains and Palmer Divide. Travel into higher elevations could be slowed by sudden downpours, with reduced visibility adding an extra hazard.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, temperatures across the Front Range are running 5 to 10 degrees below seasonal averages, with Denver topping out near the low 70s Friday. Isolated rain and storm activity will be limited mostly to higher terrain, leaving urban areas hazy but largely dry.

Conditions shift heading into the weekend. Warmer air returns beginning Saturday, with highs back into the 80s across Denver, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs. The mountains, however, remain unsettled, with scattered showers and storms expected each afternoon through early next week. Spotty coverage could briefly spill into the I-25 corridor.

The warming trend continues into next week, with above-normal temperatures possible by Tuesday. Afternoon storm chances linger most days, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during smoky periods and remain alert for sudden weather changes in the high country.
