Denver, Colo. – Thunderstorms are expected to intensify this afternoon across much of Colorado, with the strongest activity likely over the plains by evening. The National Weather Service in Boulder warned that a few storms could turn severe, producing heavy rain, gusty winds, and hail.
According to the agency, widespread showers and storms will build through the afternoon as cooler air from a morning cold front interacts with daytime heating. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s to low 80s in Denver and across the urban corridor, while mountain and valley highs hold in the 60s to low 70s.
Drivers along Interstate 25, Highway 36, and routes into the foothills should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility and slick roadways. Evening commuters in Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins face the greatest risk of strong thunderstorms. Residents across the plains should be prepared for possible severe weather alerts through tonight.
The storm threat is expected to ease after midnight, though unsettled conditions could linger into Tuesday. More advisories may be issued as the week progresses.
