Denver, Colorado – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern Colorado Friday afternoon, with the highest risk stretching from Greeley to Limon and further east across the High Plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, these storms may bring damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and localized flash flooding, especially east of the I-25 corridor. Activity is expected to build over the foothills by midday before pushing into the plains through the evening.
Counties including Weld, Arapahoe, and Elbert are in the slight risk zone for severe weather. Travel on I-76 and I-70 could be affected by sudden downpours and hail bursts. Residents should secure outdoor items, remain indoors during storms, and be prepared for potential power outages.
This system follows a drier-than-average July, raising flash flooding risk in fire-scarred areas. Storms will weaken overnight as cooler air filters in behind the system.
