DENVER, Colo. – Strong winds and a quick round of mountain snow are expected to shape Colorado’s weekend weather, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph across the plains and high mountain valleys by Saturday afternoon. Fire danger will also rise as drier air and stronger winds sweep across northeast and north-central Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, winds will increase through Saturday with gusts near 40 mph common along the Front Range, especially from Boulder to Fort Collins. A few isolated thunderstorms could form over the northeast plains late Saturday, bringing brief downpours and strong outflow winds.

Mountain areas, particularly above 9,000 feet, may see light snow beginning Saturday night, though accumulations are expected to stay under two inches. Lower elevations, including Denver, will remain mostly dry and breezy through the weekend, with temperatures in the low 80s Saturday before cooling into the upper 60s Sunday.

Showers may return early next week as cooler air settles in, followed by a warmer, drier pattern by midweek. No severe weather is expected tonight, but residents should secure outdoor items ahead of Saturday’s winds.
