Denver, Colorado – A warm and mostly dry January day is unfolding across the Front Range, but increasing winds and cloud cover will signal a subtle shift in weather by tonight across the Denver metro area.
Temperatures will climb well above normal this afternoon, with highs reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees in Denver, Boulder, and surrounding communities. Skies will start mostly clear this morning before clouds increase from north to south through the afternoon. While the sunshine fades, dry conditions will hold through daylight hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, breezy conditions will develop across the northeastern plains, with gusts becoming noticeable along east–west roadways and open areas. While winds will be lighter closer to the foothills, drivers of high-profile vehicles may feel occasional gusts during the afternoon commute.
Despite the warmth, forecasters are watching a weak disturbance that could bring a slight chance of precipitation late tonight. The probability remains low, around 15 to 20 percent, but a few light rain or snow showers cannot be ruled out after midnight, especially north and east of Denver. Any precipitation would be brief and light, with no accumulation expected in the metro area.
Mountain communities west of Denver will remain cooler, with highs in the 40s, but conditions there also stay largely dry through the evening. Snow-covered roads in higher elevations may refreeze overnight as temperatures cool.
Tonight’s lows will drop back into the upper 20s to lower 30s across the Denver area. While widespread impacts are not expected, drivers should be alert for isolated slick spots early Wednesday morning if a brief shower develops overnight.
The bigger story remains the mild pattern, which continues to dominate much of northeastern Colorado. Temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above normal are unusual for mid-January and may give a false sense of spring.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the warm daytime weather but remain aware of breezy conditions and changing skies later today. Forecast confidence remains high that impacts will stay minimal, though updates will be issued if overnight precipitation chances increase.
