Denver, Colo. – Afternoon and evening thunderstorms will return to Colorado on Friday, with the highest concentration of storms expected along and south of Interstate 70. Drivers traveling through the Denver metro and southern Front Range could encounter heavy downpours and gusty winds, especially during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, storms are most likely to develop south of I-70, with scattered chances elsewhere across the state. Forecasters warn that some storms may produce locally heavy rainfall, raising the risk of minor flooding in low-lying areas. Strong wind gusts will also be possible, particularly in and around Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, and along Highway 285.
Travelers are urged to use caution on slick roadways and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Outdoor plans, including hiking and camping in the foothills and high country, should be adjusted with lightning safety in mind.
Storm chances diminish overnight, but unsettled conditions may linger into the weekend. Additional watches or advisories could be issued if storms intensify.
