Denver, CO – Dangerous wind conditions and elevated fire risks are expected across much of Colorado today, according to the U.S. National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder.

Forecasters warn that gusts could reach 55 to 70 mph in higher terrain areas, while plains regions—including the I-25 Corridor—may see sustained winds of 35 to 50 mph. The combination of dry air, strong gusts, and warm temperatures will create elevated fire conditions from the Front Range eastward into the plains.

“Elevated fire conditions will be in place from the I-25 Corridor across the plains,” meteorologists reported early Thursday. Blowing dust may reduce visibility across northern portions of the plains, particularly near the Wyoming border.

Meanwhile, the northern mountains are forecast to see light snow showers, with a few inches of accumulation possible. Roads at higher elevations could become slick as temperatures drop later in the day.

Drivers along major routes such as I-70 and U.S. 36 are urged to use caution, especially for high-profile vehicles vulnerable to strong crosswinds. Fire officials also advise residents to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose outdoor objects.
