Denver, Colo. – A hot but stormy Friday is ahead for much of Colorado, with highs in the upper 90s across the eastern plains and the potential for damaging winds in afternoon thunderstorms. While temperatures will be a degree or two cooler than Thursday, the heat will still be intense in areas such as Fort Morgan, Sterling, and Greeley, where highs will push toward triple digits.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop after midday along the Front Range and spread east through the afternoon. Some storms could produce wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, especially east of I-25. The Denver metro will see highs near 97° with a brief but intense downpour possible during the evening commute.

Drivers on I-70 and I-25 should prepare for sudden visibility drops and crosswind hazards. Outdoor activities should be wrapped up early, and loose objects secured to prevent wind damage.

Storm chances taper off overnight, with more seasonal temperatures expected into the weekend. Weather alerts may be issued if storms intensify this evening.
